Biography
...About the girl behind the artwork
My name is Reinah Hochbaum. I'm currently 18 years old and living in New York City.
I went to the University of the Arts for a short period of time, but then went on a leave of absence and applied to another college. I am hoping to be attending that school, another art school, next fall.
I have worked at various camps teaching students of various ages various image editing programs, such as Adobe Photoshop, as well as basic computer skills. One of the camps I did was for Kindergarten through Second graders; another from Fourth through Eighth graders. I have also helped by assistant-teaching a Photoshop course to high school students.
I was always interested in art of all sorts, and I knew I wanted to go into some sort of an artistic career when I grew up. I have always been involved in performance arts activities as well as visual arts activities, in school and out. I have done acting, technical theater, scene design, and stage painting, among other things. I love to sing, and have been told that I have a great ear for music. I also love to write, especially poetry, though that has not been something I have been actively doing recently.
Besides using disposable cameras, it wasn't until I was around ten or eleven years old that I began to pursue my interest in photography. I was attending a summer camp that had a darkroom and photography classes, and started to learn a lot there. After I left the camp, I didn't really do much photography (with the exception of using a point-and-shoot digital camera occasionally) until I was fifteen, when I went to a boarding school with photography classes. I quickly remembered all that I had learned, and began to expand upon my knowledge. When I returned to my other high school, I took another photogaphy course.
It wasn't until the night before my first college interview that I realized I wanted to apply for photography, not graphic design or computer graphics. I was looking through the portfolio of prints I had set up, and realized that over 90% of the images were actually photographs. It was then I realized that my best work-- as well as the work I was most passionate about-- was actually my photography. Eventually, I decided I wanted to become a fashion photographer, because I have a strong love for fashion, and I have been fascinated by fashion photography for years.
